D1 Fonts into Customizing
By Marian Ecker

Hello there Folks -

The Designer 1 comes with some beautiful fonts leaving many of us asking how to get them into the Customizing Software. With a perseverance she is known for, Marian Ecker tackled this plight and succeeded. Our thanks to Marian for taking the time to write out the steps. Not an easy task on her part, but sure appreciated on ours. Thanks Marian!

Howdy - there have been a few folks who were interested in getting the lovely fonts that come on disks for the Designer 1 into the Customizing software. I have figured out how to do it. This is NOT for beginners. It isn't that hard to do but does require that you know how to copy and paste files. You also need to be familiar with the Disk Manager software. I hope this helps some.

Getting D1 fonts from disk into Customizing

Copy the contents of the Viking font disk on your hard drive (C) somewhere so you can remember where it is. DO NOT take off the security lock on the disk. You don’t want to copy anything onto it, just copy from it.

The font disk has the following menus. It skips #4 and #8 because the fonts only come in 3 sizes. The first 3 menus are the 30 mm letters, the next 3 menus (Menu_05 through Menu_07) are the 20 mm letters and the last 3 menus (Menu_09 through Menu_11) are the 12 mm letters.

I made up a folder with the font name and then subfolders with 30, 20 and 12 for the sizes on my hard drive (C) for the HUS files to go into. You can name them whatever you like. This was just easier for me.

Open Disk Manager with a new disk. Put any 1 design on it (just choose a random design) and save it through Disk Manager.

Using either My Computer or Explorer, whichever is most comfortable for you to use, open the Menu_01 on the disk (A) and delete the Des01_01.shv file. Leave the file that has the MHV extension.

Copy the contents of Menu_01 (drive C) of the font disk except the file that ends in MHV into the Menu_01 of the new disk you made in Disk Manager (drive A) using either My Computer or Explorer, whichever is most comfortable for you to use. Do not do this through Disk Manager.

Do this for each of the first 3 menus (Menu_01, Menu_02 and Menu_03).

Open the disk again in Disk Manager. You will see the designs (fonts) in each of the 3 menus. Use the Multi Save feature in Disk Manager and place them into the folder you made.

I found it much easier just to format my floppy disk at this point.

Then just do the same procedure for the next set of three menus.

It is a little confusing but if you try it I think you'll understand. It takes a long time because there are about 288 files on each disk. You can save one at a time or use the Multi-Save function through Disk Manager.
