Programmable Card Problem
Using your Trashcan.exe from the HV Dos Customizing
Carla Clements and Art Lindsley

The following was submitted by Carla Clements and Art Lindsley. On the HATS list, Carla mentioned that she had a problem with her programmable card going bad. Art Lindsley, also one of our HATS members posted a reply to her plea for help. In this situation, Art uses the "Trashcan" program. With the permission of both Art and Carla, below you will find the dialog between the two of them. Hopefully, you won't find yourself in this situation but if you do, and if you have HV's DOS version of Customizing, we hope that this will bring your little pal back to life. Thanks Art, Thanks Carla!

Carla: Hi Art, this is Carla, the one who started this thread about the w/r > card going bad.
Art: So you are the one who got me into so much trouble. My fingertips are rebelling with so many callouses (grin).
Carla: I was wondering if you could clarify which [trashcan program] you are talking about. I do have the old DOS version of customizing and digitizing. Is trashcan a file in this, or is trashcan a separate program? I went to Viking store last night and the lady working said she did not know of a program that fixed the cards. Is she ignorant, or just wanted to sell me a new card?
Art:

Perhaps both Carla. It seems as though we only learned about it in the early days here on the HATS list. Some of the original list members from yet another list told us about it. This is what I did to finally keep the trashcan from oblivion.

  • Since I had already replaced my HV DOS version of Customizing with other updates, I had to reinstall the DOS version.
  • I then went into that folder which was made and from that folder copied two files and saved them (originally) on a floppy (also into a separate folder called (oddly enough) trashcan. Those two files are called TRASHCAN.EXE and CARD.EXE.

  • I've made a backup of these 2 files in a half a dozen places because I place lots of value on them. Why? Because they work. It is probable that your dealer may not know about this workaround if she never had contact with our list.

  • Once I got my copies into my 'trashcan' directory I shrunk Windows explorer down so I could see my desktop and WExplorer at the same time, right-clicked on the TRASHCAN.EXE file (only) and drug it out to my desktop and released my right mouse button.
  • I then chose CREATE A SHORTCUT HERE selection. This creates the icon on your desktop for further use.

  • In my START menu (right above where it says Programs and that little bar goes across) I have a folder called Husqvarna Stuff. So I (once again) drug my icon (as described above) down to hover over the START button. The Start menu opens up and I continue dragging my icon into the Husqvarna Stuff folder.

  • I then chose COPY HERE (move here would also work just fine). Now I have all my Husq stuff together for future uses.

  • Then I made sure I had good backup (s) in different places. I feel this program is so valuable for us. I don't ever want to take the chance of loosing it as long as we own a Husqvarna sewing machine and this software of theirs. Otherwise I, too, will have to pay a visit on occasion to my dealer and buy another card.

  • Now you are the expert! Please save and send this tutorial on to anyone else you know who could use it. I'm not going to advocate, at this time, sending the files [trashcan.exe and card.exe] to anyone. Technically, this is wrong without HV's permission.
Good luck art
