A Reminder to Back-up your designs....
by Art Lindsley
The following was submitted by Art
Lindsley. Whether due to a hard drive crash or some other reason, several
members on the HATS list have subsequently lost the designs that we so feverishly
collect. Art Lindsley, also one of our HATS members, posted a reminder to
back-up your designs. Below you will find Art's reminder. Thanks Art!

may be a tremendous time to remind many of you who are rather new to computing
to receive a lesson from those of us that have lost our designs. An all
to common dilemma and not a happy one at that. I want you all to find a
good way to keep a continuous back-up of all your important data. You have
worked far too hard collecting these designs to loose them. I have all my designs on their various folders on my hard drive, backed up in a mirror image on zip disks. Then to be on the safe side I have zipped up my hus files and put them on other zip disks. In the old days we were taught to place our extra back-ups in a different place so that if something magnetic came into contact with our important back-ups all of our disks would not be ruined. If you have something important to back-up DO NOT rely on just one set of back-ups. Make multiple copies. Very soon I want to purchase a CD-R and make a CD back-up of all my designs for back-up purposes only. Overkill you say? Sure it is! But do you really want to take a chance on loosing your precious collection? At one time we have all been here. It is a tough lesson for us all to learn. I hope this will help and encourage some of you. |
