For Your Travels....
Places to Visit When your "Stash" looks slim

Hello there –

On this page you will find some of the HATS member's favorite "Haunts". My definition of a "Haunt" is a store so neat…ya just want to have your mail forwarded there. Many thanks to all that have contributed some of their favorites. This list is just in its infant stages so if you have one that you would like to send in, just e-mail the info to me and I will do my best to get it added ASAP.

Take care all and may your shopping experience be a blessed one & marked with a safe return and many sales.

Karol Saxburg sent this one in and writes:

"Hope this is the right addess-took it off another list that I was reading. We moved to Oregon 1 1/2 years ago. When we lived in So.Calif. this was the best place for ribbons and laces. I drove about 40 miles just to go to that store. And then even farther to go to Treadle Art in Lomita. . Would love to find something similar in Oregon. The only thing I miss about CA is the availability of such great fabric and craft type stores and of course the No Smoking anyplace."

Fabric Barn
3111 E. Anaheim
Long Beach, CA 90804

They had the lace gathering factory next door. I made square dance dresses and it was nothing to put 25 yards of lace and that much or more ribbon on one dress. The ribbon was from l2yds for $l to 4 or 5 yds for $l depending on width. Same way with lace, many styles, designs, widths, colors and all other kinds of trims. If you bought large quantities it was less. 50 yards of 1" gathered lace was $8. They have every color you could want also. I always had unique square dance dresses.

They had some fabric also. Hoffman's in the $5-$6 yard range and others. They were usually the year before designs but that didn't bother me. They have all kinds of craft stuff too. Best of all, the area has improved considerably from when I first started going there.

Erica’s Craft and Sewing Center, South Bend Indiana

Information on this store was submitted by Linda (aka Gramma Gugie). As a description, Linda writes:

Erica's Craft and Sewing Center on Ironwood Dr. in South Bend, IN is my dealer. Lots of notions, and a really good selection of quilting fabrics. This is where Judy Nowicki started and she is teaching embroidery, pictogramming, and digitizing classes.

Michigan

Field’s Fabrics, Portage Road, Kalamazoo, Michigan

Another store recommended by Linda. Our thanks Linda for the recommendations.

It carries almost any kind of fabric you can imagine including Ultrasuede, various kinds of silk (the real thing), linens, knits (good quality), etc. Just behind it is the Viking Shop where Tracy Helmer began - it has some fabulous stuff, similar to Erica's, but a lot different, too.
