Our two year old son, Caleb somehow found my very blue, and very permanent marker. After practicing his artistic talents on his wee little body... he decided to decorate my cabinets. After sharing this story with the HATS list, I received several wonderful notes. They brought both laughter and tears but most importantly further recognition of how lucky I am to have some wonderful far-away friends that share trials and tribulations and always remind me, and we all need reminded occassionally.. just how precious these times are.

So without further adieu here is Caleb's little ditty....

Little Sir MarksAlot

Little hands that quickly grab whatever marks the best,
with paper never visited it doesn't pass the test.

White walls that whisper in his ear - then beckon for his art
- the choice is overwhelming. On which one should he start?

Then something flashes through his mind - "The cabinets!" he cries.
With marker carried like a torch - Mommy's going to die.

She'll love my little coloring, I'll probably make her day.
My marks will never leave her, permanent they'll stay!

The cap is off, he never slows - fully focused glad it shows.

Then just when all is going well, the pen marks getting bolder,
Mommy in the doorway shows....good grief she's looking older!

She glances at his work so fine, the care that he has taken -
But it's clear that Mommy dear has obviously been shaken.

Then thankful to her e-mail friends that have given good advice,
She knows deep down these little marks are worth more than the price...

For walls can be repainted. Cabinets are re-faced.
But money never could approach the smile on Caleb's little face.

My time with them will be too short - to know them is a pleasure.
And in my heart I truly know that these are times to treasure.

For who knows what tomorrow brings or what it just might lack?
They're just here on loan from God and he could need them back.

These markings are my memories and though my house may be a mess....
I Thank God for my Sir MarksAlot - I truly have been blessed.
