| A note
from Rita: I've always wanted to make different holiday covers for the chairs in our breakfast room and this contest finally pushed me to get started! Next will be a table runner and placements to match. |
|
| To make the July 4th Chair Covers: | |
| Fabric Requirements: | 1/3 yd of Ecru 1/2 yd of Navy 2/3 yd of Red, White, Blue |
| (Extra fabric has been included so edges can be straightened. Also, I used 45" wide fabric, cutting salvage to salvage) | |
| 1 | Embroider Design on ecru fabric. Then trim to 8" wide by approx 29" long. |
| 2 | Additionally, cut two strips the same size from navy blue fabric (the one I used has tiny ecru stars on it) |
| 3 | Piece the three strips together with half-inch seams. |
| 4 | Turn up 1 1/2" along both short ends and hem |
| 5 | Make nine buttonholes on each hem at the short ends for a total of eighteen (yes, 18 buttonholes together!!!) |
| 6 | Fold it in half and sew and side seams together. Turn right side out & slip it over the back of the chair. |
| 7 | From the 18" red, white & blue fabric, tear 2" strips salvage to salvage. "Thread" each strip through a buttonhole on the front & the back. This will also keep the cover from slipping around! |
| I used my serger (Huskylock 1001L) for most of the sewing and the buttonhole sensor foot on my #1+ for all those buttonholes. | |
| Thank you for having this contest and a special thank you to the designers for all the wonderful embroidery designs! It was very difficult to choose. I think I'll use a different one on each of my chairs! I'm also thinking of "scattering" the word celebrate from Patriotic Patchworks all over the chair back. Sometimes I don't know which is harder, just getting stated or knowing when to quit! | |
